My Writing Flaws

As I typed my way through the first chapter of my SNI, (got in close to 3000 words today!), I realized one of my writing flaws…compound words. For some reason my brain doesn’t want to connect them.

One of the main ones is…without…see, even when I typed it just now I initially typed with out.

For this particular novel, my main compound blunders were:

Stairway
Shotgun
Neighborhood
Headlights
Wildlife

Now, as my brain wouldn’t let me make those words compound words, I kept trying to make duffle bag one word! WTH? My brain is on some serious malfunction. At least I know…admitting you have a problem is the first step.

I had a serious problem with a lot at one point. It kept wanting to come out 'alot' even though I know it's not right. Seriously, there should be a 12 step program for stuff like this.

I do the same exact thing and I don't even notice it until someone in my crit group points it out.

That's how I first noticed my problem, my ms came back from my beta with all these "track changes" making my two words one-lol.

Carrie-
I should have put a lot on my list as well as a little (tee-hee) because I attach that "a" with them both. Maybe we'll have to start our own 12 step program.
